Summer’s Gone !

Wednesday 20th of August 2008 :: 09:31 AM

Where it went, I know not !

From the the date on the last entry it is obvious I have not kept this Blog up-to-date with our activities.  The weather has been sunny and bright most of the time which allowed for a lot of pleasurable fishing and cruising on the lake.  The fishing was not quite as productive as last year and in fact was very disappointing.  Golfing with the Senior Men’s League of Northern Idaho about once a week kept George out of Kathy’s hair while she was sewing this and that for the grandkids.  We also got in a few rounds of golf with friends as often as we could.  Weekly Barbecues at someones house or campsite was the norm as was the evening cocktail hour at the RV Park.

The annual rendezvous with the Ellensburg, Washington group was held again at the Two Rivers Casino, Marina and RV Park; 15 rigs this year.  Lots of food, cheer and daily golf.
The fact that the scores did not go down with all that golf may have something to do with the amount of beer that was consumed and the 100 degree plus hot weather.

After “The Rendezvous”, we returned to Idaho and hooked up at Kathy’s sister Laurie’s ranch for a couple of weeks.  Laurie has decided to put her place up for sale, so there was lots to do the get the place ready for showing.

Moved

Monday 09th of June 2008 :: 08:11 PM

We moved from Laurie’s yard to Lakeland RV Park in Bayview and after a week of inclement weather, plus being very busy at I don’t know what, we got the boat in the water. It’s not quit the same setup that we had last year, the lakeside RV Park is no more. The RV Park we’re in is about a quarter mile from the marina and it takes a bit more effort to load up the boat for a trip. Oh well, the setup we had before was too good to be true anyway. But, the Idaho Fish & Game is still paying a $15 bounty on lake trout and rainbow trout caught in Lake Pend Oreille and the lake is just as beautiful as ever with its eagles, osprey and mountain goats.

On our first “fishing” day on the lake we caught only one trout.  So, we weren’t skunked, but, upon netting the two pounder, it was determined that it was a $350 fish instead of a $15 fish.  $350 fine, that is, if we kept the Bull Trout, an “endangered” species. But, we didn’t get skunked !

Graduation

Monday 02nd of June 2008 :: 12:24 PM

Warden to Athol, ID - Free, Sister’s yard

Arrived at destination for this trip and the planned celebration of nephew Jason’s graduation. We attended the ceremony and verified that Jason did indeed graduate from High School. His mom, Laurie, was very proud, as was his “Auntie Grandma”, Kathy. Ricky flew up from Sacramento to attend and on Sunday, treated Jason to a round of golf at the famous Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course. We also went to experience the ambiance of playing on such an exclusive course. We did reasonably well, Kathy made the first par, and we thoroughly enjoyed the motor launch ride to and from the course, the sports massages, and the services of the fore-caddy. The floating 14th Green was a challenge and I made it on the first try, but bogeyed the hole; Ricky made it on his second shot; Kathy almost made it, but hit the wall 3 inches below the grass; and Jason overshot the green on his two attempts.

Golf, Golf and More Golf

Monday 26th of May 2008 :: 12:22 PM

Crooked River to Warden, WA - $22.85/nite

Fuel - Madras, OR - 79.7 gal. @ $4.679/gal. - $373.17

At Sage Hills Golf and RV Park we put down the jacks for a week of golf and partying with Bob and Nancy and later the gang from Ellensburg. We all played a golf tournament at nearby Othello Golf Coarse and enjoying a great weekend. There is a thing as too much golf and the end of the week found us very tired, but, ready to play again soon.

Side Trip & Tire Trouble

Saturday 24th of May 2008 :: 12:20 PM

Kla-Ma-Ya Casino to Crooked River, OR - Free, Friend’s Yard

Tire Repair - La Pine, OR - $150

Storm clouds had threatened to snow on us but the temperature stayed near 40 and we only had to suffer through some light rain. We stopped in La Pine to do some sight seeing in car and Kathy discovered a nail in the motor home’s right rear tire that we must of picked up as we entered the truck parking lot. Of course getting the tire fixed became the priority. The nail was in the side wall and the hole could not be repaired so a used tire was bought and mounted. We did get to do an abreviated visit to a local golf coarse and start up the mountain to Newberry Crater. The weather made us think twice about a trip to the crater lakes at 6380 feet and we returned to La Pine to hook up the car and continue our trip north.

Burt and Carolyn’s home at the Crooked River Ranch near Terrebonne was our next stop and we spent a few days with them reliving past get togethers.

Casino Stops

Friday 23rd of May 2008 :: 12:18 PM

Rancho Cordova to Kla-Ma-Ya Casino, OR - Free Parking Lot

Although the weather had been rather blustery during our visit with the kids, the trip north was pleasant. Made a brief stop at Rolling Hills Casino near Corning to visit the money we had left there the last trip through, had a hot dog, and managed to leave without contributing any more to their building program.

The same was true at the Kla-Ma-Ya Casino north of Klamuth Falls, OR and after a good nights sleep we continued our trek north.

Hugs, Kisses and Grandchildren

Monday 19th of May 2008 :: 12:13 PM

Atascadero to Rancho Cordova, Ca - Elk’s $15/nite

Fuel - Santa Nella, Ca. - 85.2 gal. @ $4.759/gal. $405.42

After spending some time doing maintenance and yard work around the homestead and visiting with Mom as much as possible, we departed for Sacramento to see the newest addition to the family.

Lauren is as beautiful as her pictures, especially when she manages a smile every now and then.  Benjamin is the dutiful big brother and has learned to grab the pacifier when sis starts to fuss, which, isn’t very often.  Ben is hitting the baseball really well for his age as a lefty, but throws the ball as a righty.

William is growing and growing and loves to read his books but would rather have someone read to him, which Grandma enjoyed doing.  Mason is a new addition to the family and for a young dog is very tolerant of William.  Its obvious they will be best buds for years to come.

Homeport

Sunday 11th of May 2008 :: 11:31 AM

Santa Barbara to Atascadero, Ca - Elk’ $17/nite

Home !   Or better-put - homeport - Change winter clothes for summer, refurbish, and resupply the staples.  And of course, visit with old friends and get caught up on all the gossip.

Book Progress

Friday 09th of May 2008 :: 11:27 AM

Murrieta to Santa Barbara, Ca - Elk’s $20/nite

Saturday included a round of golf at the municipal course and then dinner with Tamra and Jacob. They are doing well and Tamra’s book is coming together. Tamra came over for breakfast on Sunday morning and we were on the road by noon.

Different Route

Wednesday 07th of May 2008 :: 11:18 AM

Dateland to Murrieta, Ca - Frank’s yard

Fuel - Yuma, Az - 49.2 gal. @ $ 4.05 /gal.

We treated ourselves to a breakfast out and were on our way by 7:45 AM, another “early start”. After topping off with fuel in Yuma, we continued on Interstate 8 to Exit 61 and the Golden Acorn Casino for a short break. With a bounce in our step we left about an hour later, after recouping some of the losses incurred at Hobbs.

On to Exit 47, we turned north on California 79 for a beautiful but white knuckle ride to Julian (not for the faint of heart) and then another Casino break even break at Santa Ysabel. The rest of route 79 continued be a vista of spring flowers and hairpin turns were not the main feature of the road as was the case between Guatay and Julian.

Jacks down in brother Frank’s yard and his Grandson, Ezra, was Johnny on the spot to push the button to make the living room slide extend and then of course sister, Delaney, had to extend the bedroom slide. The next day and Friday morning were spent with Lance and Stacey and of course the kids.
